Twist Your House Challenge

I haven't signed up for many challenges this year, but I couldn't resist It's Not What You Read But Where You Read It, hosted by iHeartMonster. The challenge is to read for one hour in each of the designated places:
  • A place in your house you've never read before
  • A place of commerce
  • Moving
  • Outdoors
  • A place you don't call home
  • Somewhere you probably shouldn't read
  • With another person
My New Year's resolution is to read for fun at least an hour every day, so this fit right in! I was also interested in the recording aspect of this challenge--at first I was planning on doing still photographs, but then I decided to play with time lapse recording and came up with the video you see here. I put the bench in front of my bedroom window when it started getting cold outside, for the express purpose of reading there, but I never did. It gets pretty chilly by the window with no sun (you can see me shivering a little in the video), and I'd really rather go out to a cafe to read anyway. But that will be another video.

If you want to sign up for the challenge, go to iHeartMonster's blog!

Fragment Friday: A Christmas Carroll

Fragment Friday is a weekly meme hosted at Book Chic, where you read an excerpt from either your current read or one of your favorite books and post it on your blog to share with others! It's a fun way to learn about new books or to hear a sample from a book you're dying to read.  Go to Book Chic to post your own fragment!

The Sesame Street Library

I've been learning a lot about the library in Sesame Street this week.  First, Cass from Bonjour, Cass! recommended this Grover video in our BBAW interview; then Katiebabs posted an ode to the library this weekend where she featured a video with Cookie Monster in the same library.

This made me wonder what else I could learn about libraries from Sesame Street, other than 1. you must be quiet, and 2. there are no cookies.  So behold, my semi-scientific (i.e., what I did with my afternoon other than homework) survey of the Sesame Street library!

Lesson 3: the library is for everyone, even grouches.

La la la la la la la lalalalalalalalalalalalalalala!

Lesson 4: you can meet rock stars at the library!

Lesson 5: there are computers.

Naturally, since this video features Elmo, it's pretty lame.

That's right, Elmo. LAME.

What are your favorite library-related videos?

Fragment Friday-What Alice Knew

This is the first week I'm participating in Fragment Friday, hosted by Book Chic Club.  It's where you read a passage out of your current book, and it's really fun.

I forgot to adjust the volume for my soft voice this week--sorry about that!  I know I start off very, very quiet, but I get louder once I start reading.

TSS--The Vlog Edition

The Sunday Salon.com

I decided to play with my new camera and do a vlog for this week's Sunday Salon. It sounded so easy! Just talk into the camera, post the video, and voila! A post.

Well, I think the vlog was actually more trouble than it was worth. It took FOREVER and it isn't that great. Seriously, feel free not to watch it. But for what it's worth, here it is:

Here's what I talked about:
So there you have it. Hope everyone has a great Sunday!
